A total of 11 Nigerian states are bracing for potential flooding as Cameroon releases excess water from Lagdo Dam.
The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) warned that states bordering the Benue River, including:
– Adamawa
– Taraba
– Benue
– Nasarawa
– Kogi
– Edo
– Delta
– Anambra
– Bayelsa
– Cross River
– Rivers
are at risk of severe flooding.
NIHSA’s Director-General, Umar Muhammed, urged residents to relocate from flood plains to higher grounds, citing rising water levels.
“The water discharge is anticipated to escalate to 1000m³/s over the next seven days,” Muhammed warned.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the release of excess water from Lagdo Dam and its impact on River Benue’s water level.

The warning comes after the devastating floods in Maiduguri, Borno State, caused by the collapse of Alau Dam.
