Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have intercepted 174 Nigerian men attempting to cross into Niger border communities. The men were stopped at Gueskeru, a critical border town linking Yobe State in Nigeria with the Republic of Niger.
According to Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, MNJTF spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were traveling from various Nigerian towns to the Lake Chad region, ostensibly for fishing activities. However, concerns were raised due to the porous borders, which have become sanctuaries for terrorist groups, including the Lakurawa terrorist group.
The intercepted group raised security alarms, prompting Sector 4 troops to halt their journey and initiate a detailed profiling and interrogation process. The MNJTF has reaffirmed its commitment to counterterrorism efforts, civilian protection, and regional security.
