Aba Residents Send SOS to Governor Otti Over Devastating Gully Erosion

 

Aba residents in Abia State have sent an SOS message to Governor Alex Otti, urging him to address the devastating gully erosion threatening their homes and livelihoods. The erosion, which started due to the dredging of the river by companies along the waterside, has already engulfed the entire Military Zone 2 Estate and adjoining areas, putting over 30,000 residents at risk.

  1.  Loss of Properties: Residents fear losing their homes and businesses if the erosion is not stopped.Risk to Lives:
  2. The erosion poses a significant threat to the lives of residents, especially with the impending rainy season.
  3. Environmental Damage: The erosion has destroyed the railway tracks and properties, causing environmental damage.

Government Response:

Governor Otti has promised to take immediate action to address the erosion, directing the General Manager of the Greater Aba Development Authority to mobilize engineers and contractors to find a lasting solution. The state government has also advised residents to vacate the area to save their lives.
