Abducted Nurse Regains Freedom After Six Years in Boko Haram Captivity

A 42-year-old nurse, Alice Loksha, has been freed after being held captive by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State since 2018.

Loksha was abducted while working at a UNICEF office in Kala Balge. During her captivity, she was forced to marry Abu Umar and had a son, Mohammed, with him. After Abu Umar’s death, she was forced into another marriage with ISWAP Commander Abu Simak.

Loksha escaped from Dogon Chuku camp on October 24, 2024, and received medical attention upon arrival at HQ TC on October 29, 2024. Another abducted woman, Fayina Ali, who was captured by Boko Haram in 2020 while traveling from Kaduna, also escaped. Both women underwent traumatic experiences and showed remarkable resilience.

The Borno State Government has assured extensive care for the two women, including psychosocial support and rehabilitation before reuniting them with their families.

This development comes as a relief, highlighting the Nigerian Army’s efforts to restore peace in the Northeast region and Borno State.
