A 70-year-old man, Nwokocha Stephen Irobunda, has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a 30-year-old man, Bright Odizuru, in Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State.
The incident occurred when youths playing football near Irobunda’s house ignored his warnings to stop, leading to an altercation. Irobunda reportedly fired into the air to scare the youths away, but they regrouped and returned to his house. Feeling threatened, Irobunda allegedly shot at them with his dane gun, hitting Odizuru in the abdomen, who later died in the hospital.
The police intervened, rescuing Irobunda from an angry mob that sought to lynch him and destroy his house. The suspect is now in police custody, and an investigation is ongoing.
