As Nigeria prepares to celebrate its 64th Independence Day, tensions are running high in Abuja. The city is bracing for planned #Endbadgovernance protests, prompting the police to deploy a massive security presence.
“We are fully prepared to ensure a hitch-free Independence Day celebration,” Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Benneth Igweh, assured residents.
A battery of security measures has been put in place, including:
– Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel
– Anti-riot equipment
– Visibility policing
– Strategic traffic diversions in Central Area and Eagle Square
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to FCT Police emergency lines.
The protests, slated for October 1, aim to draw attention to Nigeria’s governance issues. Authorities are leaving nothing to chance, determined to maintain public safety.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence or disruption,” Igweh warned.
As Abuja prepares for a potentially volatile day, residents are advised to stay informed and exercise caution.
