A cholera outbreak has ravaged four local government areas in Adamawa State, claiming 15 lives and hospitalizing over 300 others.
Commissioner of Health and Human Services Felix Tangwami confirmed the outbreak, stating that seven deaths occurred in government facilities, while eight were recorded in communities. To date, 308 people have been admitted, with 244 treated and discharged.
The affected areas include Yola South, Yola North, Fufore, and Girei.

The government has secured 200,000 cholera vaccines from UNICEF and is working to contain the outbreak through patient isolation, treatment, and laboratory tests to ascertain the organism causing acute watery diarrhea. Health workers are also sensitizing the public and providing education on personal hygiene and sanitation.
Tangwami emphasized the importance of confirming the outbreak through laboratory tests before announcement, citing ethical considerations.
Residents are urged to prioritize hygiene and sanitation to prevent further spread. The government is working to contain the outbreak, with health workers providing support and guidance.
