Akwa Ibom Police Inspector Missing, Two Wounded in Gun Duel with Pirates

 

A recent incident in Akwa Ibom State has left one police inspector missing and two others wounded after a gun duel with suspected sea pirates. The pirates, dressed in military camouflage, attacked the Marine Police Patrol Team on January 11 along the Oron-Calabar waterways corridor.

According to DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom Command, the pirates attempted to overpower the police officers in a gun duel, but the officers put up a brave fight. Two officers, Inspector Sunday Usuyak and Inspector Edet Enenyi, sustained gunshots and are receiving medical attention, while Inspector Udi Emenyi is currently unaccounted for.

The police command has deployed a specialized search and rescue team to track and recover the missing officer, with the Nigerian Navy and other security services collaborating on the operation. The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has assured residents of intensified patrols and heightened security in the affected areas.
