Anambra Police Arrest Father Over Negligence Leading to 7-year-old Son’s Death

 

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Alfred Bassey, 40, for allegedly causing the death of his 7-year-old son through negligence. Bassey, a native of Abi in Cross River State, was detained after police found his son’s lifeless body in a soakaway pit in an abandoned building in Onitsha.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations revealed that Bassey forcibly took the child from his mother and had been living with him in the uncompleted building. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, condemned the incident and emphasized the importance of prioritizing children’s well-being, especially during parental disputes.
