Chief Ezebinobi Ezigbo, President-General of Abatete community in Idemili North Local Government Area, was kidnapped by unknown assailants on Tuesday evening.
The abduction occurred shortly after Ezigbo attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor.
The kidnappers trailed Ezigbo to his house, surrounded him at gunpoint, and took him away in their vehicle. However, he was released on Wednesday after spending a night in captivity.

Details of the ransom payment remain unclear.
In a separate incident, hoodlums kidnapped two persons in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, on Monday evening. One victim escaped, while the abductors took two others away.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the incidents due to lack of information.
