Baby Trafficking Syndicate Busted in Rivers State

A six-month-old baby, Lucky Sunday, kidnapped from his parents’ residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been rescued by the Rivers State Police Command [original article]. The baby was abducted on September 29, 2024, by a suspect identified as Mr. Erica, who sold him for N3.6 million to an unidentified female buyer in Enugu State.

 

The Investigation

The police tracked down the suspect to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, and arrested him. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had sold his biological child before abducting Lucky Sunday. The police also rescued the child and arrested the buyer and four other accomplices, bringing the total number of suspects to six.

 

Reaction from Authorities

The Rivers police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the case was a child trafficking syndicate. A rights advocate, Prince Wiro, commended the police for their professionalism and due diligence in rescuing the child and arresting the suspects.
