Benue State Massacre: 15 Killed, Many Injured in Suspected Herder Attack

A devastating assault on Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, left at least 15 people dead and numerous others injured or missing on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

Attack Details:

  • Location: Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State
  •  Time: 6:32 pm, Wednesday, October 30, 2024
  • Perpetrators: Suspected armed herders (over 20) Casualties: 15+ dead, many injured, missing

According to community leader Joseph Anawah, the heavily armed attackers overwhelmed local security forces during the three-hour assault.

Victims Include:

  • Orihundu Ati, retired Primary School Supervisor
  •  Zaki Mbatern, son of the Kindred Head of Mbawuave
  • Son of former Chief of Staff to Logo Local Government Area chairman, Tordoo Suswam
  • Son of Mr. Uyange Chembe, younger brother to the late District Head of Ukemberagya, Zaki John Chembe

Official Response:

Benue State Police Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, had not received a report at the time of filing. However, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and External Affairs, Col. Alex Igbaya (retd.), confirmed the incident without disclosing casualty figures.
