Benue State Government has announced plans to conduct a livestock census to curb clashes between farmers and herders. According to Aondoaka Asambe, the Principal Special Assistant to the state governor on Livestock Development, the census will provide statistics on livestock and their owners, helping to reduce conflicts and crime in the industry.
The benefits of the livestock census include:
- Reducing Clashes: Helping to control incessant clashes between farmers and herders
- Controlling Rustling: Tracing animals to their owners through tagging, reducing rustling and related crimes
- Improving Industry Standards: Enhancing the overall quality of the livestock industry in Benue State
The state government aims to resuscitate livestock establishments, improve breeds, and increase production to meet local consumption demands.
