Benue Transformer Vandalization Attempt Ends in Electrocution

 

A middle-aged man was electrocuted on Tuesday while attempting to vandalize a transformer and cables belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company in Makurdi, Benue State.

 

The incident occurred opposite the Queens Hotel in Ankpa Ward, where residents found the vandal’s lifeless body hanging between two poles connecting the cables to the transformer. According to eyewitnesses, the man took advantage of power outages in the area to commit the act, but met his end when power was unexpectedly restored.

 

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company condemned the incident and urged communities to take ownership of electricity facilities in their areas. The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, also confirmed the incident, saying a report was received about someone being electrocuted while attempting to vandalize a transformer.
