Blind Man’s Desperate Cry for Help: Rescued from Suicide Attempt on Third Mainland Bridge

A heart-wrenching incident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos over the weekend, as a visually impaired man, Ewenla Adetomiwa, attempted to jump into the lagoon with his two children. The 65-year-old father, who was rescued by a good Samaritan and motorists, blamed his actions on hopelessness and hardship.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, Adetomiwa admitted to wanting to commit suicide to enable the government to take care of his children. The police are currently investigating the incident and have contacted his wife.

In a similar incident, a mentally deranged teenager, Elijah, was rescued while attempting to jump into the lagoon from the same bridge. He was taken to the station and later released to his brother for medical treatment.

These incidents highlight the growing concerns of mental health and the need for support systems in Nigeria.
