BOAT ACCIDENT CLAIMS FOUR LIVES IN BORNO STATE

 

Tragedy struck in Borno State on Monday, September 23, 2024, when a canoe carrying passengers was submerged by floodwaters, resulting in the deaths of four people.

 

The victims, all females from Bulabulin Ward, Dikwa, included:

– Ya Mallum Shettima (adult)

– Maimuna Akura (10 years old)

– Umira Alhaji Bulama (6 years old)

– Yagana Bulama Kawu (5 months old)

The accident occurred around 4 pm along Maiduguri Road, specifically in the Bakassi community between Mafa and Dikwa.

 

 

Police officers responded promptly, rescuing the victims and transporting them to Dikwa General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

 

 

Borno State Police Command has urged boat operators to adhere to safety protocols, ensuring passengers wear life jackets and safety buoys, amid the state’s ongoing flooding crisis.

 

 

“The command’s utmost priority is the safety and security of all residents, especially during this challenging period,” said Police Public Relations Officer Nahum Daso.
