Boko Haram Terrorists Kill 87 in Mafa Village Attack

Tragedy struck Mafa village in Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe state when suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly attack on Sunday, leaving 87 people dead.

The attack occurred around 4 pm when worshippers were concluding their Asir prayers at a mosque. The terrorists opened fire on the victims after separating the elderly and herdsmen from the congregation.

Survivors reported that the terrorists targeted the community due to suspicions that some members were providing information on their operations to security agencies. The attack resulted in the recovery of 87 corpses, with 37 being prepared for burial on Tuesday morning at the Emir’s palace in Tarmuwa town.

The remaining 50 corpses, which had decomposed, would be given a mass burial in Mafa. The Deputy Governor of Yobe state, Idi Barde Gubana, would attend the burial on behalf of Governor Mai Mala Buni, who is currently out of the country on an official engagement.

Security sources revealed that the 37 corpses are currently being held at Babbangida General Hospital. The attack has raised concerns about the lack of security in the area, with survivors stating that no security operatives were present during or after the attack.

The Mafa village is located close to Shekau, the ancestral home of the late Boko Haram leader, Sheikh Abubakar Shekau. The attack is seen as a reprisal by the terrorists, who have been degrading in recent times due to increased security operations in the area.
