Nigerian social media influencer Bobrisky has filed a lawsuit against fellow influencer VeryDarkMan, seeking N1 billion in damages over allegations of bribery against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Allegations & Denial
VeryDarkMan shared a voice recording allegedly of Bobrisky claiming to have bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop a money laundering charge. However, Bobrisky denies the allegations, stating the recording was artificially generated using AI technology.
Legal Action
Bobrisky’s lawyers have given VeryDarkMan 24 hours to issue a written and video apology. The lawsuit comes as the House of Representatives launches an investigation into bribery allegations against the EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
House of Representatives Investigation
The investigation aims to address concerns over damaging allegations and Nigeria’s negative image as a corrupt nation. EFCC Chairman, VeryDarkMan, and Bobrisky have been invited to appear before the House.
Reactions
“This lawsuit is a bold move by Bobrisky to clear his name,” said legal expert, Emmanuel Ukala. “However, the outcome will depend on the credibility of the evidence presented.”
