A devastating wave of violence has swept through Rivers State, leaving at least five people dead and several others injured. The clashes erupted as newly elected local government chairmen, sworn in by Governor Siminialayi Fubara, attempted to assume office.

Eyewitness Accounts:
“Youths opposed to the new chairmen arrived at the secretariats, claiming they were there to clean the premises. The situation quickly escalated into gunfire, leaving many injured and dead,” said a local resident.
Presidential Intervention:
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to restore security and maintain peace in the affected areas.
Police Response:
Despite the growing unrest, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to release an official statement.

“We urge the authorities to take immediate action to restore order and protect the lives of our people,” said a local leader.
