A businessman, Ismaila Awoyinka, was assassinated in Ore, Ondo State, on Saturday. The Police Command in Ondo State confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. Awoyinka, a building materials dealer, was ambushed by unknown gunmen near his home, opposite Caring Heart Mega School, after performing the Taraweeh prayer.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 8:35 pm. The gunmen, reportedly dressed in white clothes, arrived on a motorcycle and shot Awoyinka at close range. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that the police were working to unravel the circumstances surrounding Awoyinka’s assassination. “Investigation is ongoing to unravel the assassination of the businessman,” Odunlami said.
The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, Taiwo Adegoroye, expressed his deep concern over the security situation in the area, describing Awoyinka’s assassination as a tragic loss. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, the police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The family of the deceased has also appealed for justice, calling on the authorities to ensure that those responsible for Awoyinka’s assassination are brought to book.
