Cholera Outbreak Claims Four Lives in Adamawa

 

A cholera outbreak in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa state has resulted in four deaths, according to health and local council authorities.

 

Between September 4th and 15th, 2024, 40 cases were recorded in Alkawa Ward, Ajiya Ward, and Limawa Ward, all in the Yola North LGA.

 

The council chairman, Barrister Jibril Ibrahim, confirmed the casualty, stating that samples collected from the outbreak tested positive for Vibrio cholerae 01 serotype at the Yola Specialist Hospital.

 

“The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 40, with four fatalities,” Ibrahim said.

 

Health officials are closely monitoring the situation, and measures are being taken to contain the spread. Health workers have begun house-to-house visits to raise awareness and prevent further cases.

 

Ibrahim urged the Adamawa state government to take swift action to support the efforts of health workers and called for community cooperation.
