A 36-year-old commercial driver, Mustapha Aminu, has been sentenced to 15 strokes of the cane for assaulting a police officer in Kaduna. The driver, who resides in Ungwan Sanusi, pleaded guilty to hitting Sgt. Adamu Maigari on the head with a log of wood on January 29.
The Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, emphasized that the punishment aims to make Aminu understand the gravity of his offense and serve as a warning to others. The driver was also warned to desist from such crimes and focus on his job to be a useful member of society.
It’s worth noting that assaulting a police officer is considered a serious crime in many jurisdictions, with penalties ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, depending on the circumstances and the laws of the state or country.
