Cyclone Chido has brought devastation to Mozambique, killing at least 120 people and destroying 110,000 homes. The cyclone made landfall in northern Mozambique on December 15, bringing with it powerful gusts of up to 260 kilometers per hour and heavy rainfall.
The affected areas include the northern provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, and Niassa, with over 500,000 people impacted in Cabo Delgado alone. The region is already grappling with a long-running Islamist insurgency and the effects of human-driven climate change.
