Defence Headquarters Debunks Viral Video of Mass Killing in Sokoto

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed a viral video purporting to show the mass killing of 150 persons recently kidnapped in Sokoto State. The video, which has been circulating on social media, claims that the victims were killed by terrorists due to their inability to pay ransom for their freedom.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, described the video as “manipulative” and “desperate” propaganda by terrorists. He stated that the incident never took place in Nigeria, but rather in a nearby African country faced with terrorism.

Buba also addressed a recent incident in Zamfara State, where two Mines Resistant Armored Personnel Carriers (MRAPs) got stuck in a swamp during a fighting operation. He explained that the troops demobilized the MRAPs to prevent them from being used by the terrorists.

The DHQ urged the public to be cautious of terrorist propaganda and misinformation, emphasizing that the armed forces remain committed to winning the war against terrorism.

In a related development, the DHQ also debunked reports of the abduction of 150 persons in Gobir, Sokoto State, stating that the rumour was planted by terrorists to undermine troops’ efforts and cover up their weaknesses.
