Katsina State has been severely affected by recent floods, resulting in significant loss of life and property. According to Hajiya Binta Hussain Dagani, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), at least 15 people have lost their lives, and over 3,000 others have been displaced.
The floods, which occurred between early August and early September, also left 21,481 people with various degrees of injuries. Furthermore, a total of 32,542 houses across 32 local government areas were damaged, leaving many without shelter.
The most affected areas include Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, and Batagarawa Local Government Areas. In response to the disaster, the state government has initiated relief efforts, including the distribution of palliatives donated by the Bank of Industry.
Additional support measures, such as cash assistance and building materials, are planned for the victims. The state government has received a comprehensive report from SEMA detailing the extent of the damage and casualties, which will guide further action.
