Double Tragedy Hits Nigeria: 75 Lives Lost in Kaduna Accident and Zamfara Boat Mishap

 

Nigeria mourns the loss of 75 lives in two separate tragedies that occurred yesterday. A devastating road accident in Kaduna State and a boat mishap in Zamfara State have left families and communities reeling in shock.

 

Kaduna Accident

Over 35 Muslims traveling to celebrate Maulud lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident near Samunaka, Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The J5 bus conveying them collided with an articulated vehicle, resulting in multiple fatalities. Another vehicle in their entourage was also involved in a crash with a motorbike, claiming more lives and leaving several injured.

 

Malam Abdullahi, an organizer of the Maulud celebration, confirmed the incident. “We had over 70 people, including women and children. It’s a sad development. We’ve taken the injured to JUTH in Jos for medical attention.”

 

Zamfara Boat Mishap

In Zamfara State, a boat carrying 40 people capsized in the Bakin Kasuwa River of Uban Dawaki community, resulting in the loss of over 40 lives. Governor Lawal described the incident as a “monumental disaster” and directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to embark on immediate rescue and recovery efforts.

Response and Reactions

Governor Lawal also directed the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters to provide immediate relief materials to the victims’ families. Tinubu has promised support for Zamfara and mourned the victims.
