Edo Police Arrest Two Suspects in Catholic Priest’s Abduction

 

Benin, Edo State – The Edo State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. Thomas Ayode, Rector of Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School in Ivanokpodi, Agenegbode.

 

Kidnapping Incident

On Sunday, October 27, 2024, gunmen abducted Rev. Fr. Ayode during evening prayers at the seminary. The kidnappers subsequently contacted the Diocese of Auchi, demanding a N200 million ransom.

 

Police Response

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, disclosed the arrests while parading seven suspects linked to various crimes across the state. Ozigi stated that the police have:

 

1. Rejigged security in the area

2. Deployed a Unit of Police Mobile Force

3. Arrested two suspects connected to the kidnapping

The police are working tirelessly to:

1. Rescue Rev. Fr. Ayode

2. Apprehend remaining suspects

3. Bring perpetrators to justice
