The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of voting hours in areas where the governorship election process started late.
INEC’s National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, confirmed that voting began early in many polling units, but delays were reported in some locations.
To ensure no voter is disenfranchised, INEC reiterated that voting will continue until the last person in the queue, who arrived by 2:30 pm, has cast their vote.
Key Measures:
– Backup power supplies will be provided at affected polling units and collation centers.
– INEC’s situation room at the National Headquarters in Abuja will closely monitor the election.
INEC’s Statement:
“The Commission continues to monitor the ongoing governorship election… To ensure no voter is disenfranchised, voting will be extended wherever it commenced late.”
