Enugu Tanker Explosion Death Toll Rises to 23

 

The death toll from the January 25 tanker explosion on the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has increased to 23, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Key Details:

  •  Incident Recap: A fuel-laden tanker experienced brake failure, fell, and exploded, killing 11 people instantly.
  •  Initial Injuries: 23 people were injured and taken to hospitals in Enugu for treatment.
  •  Updated Death Toll: Two more female victims have died from their injuries, bringing the total death toll to 23.

FRSC Response:

  • Sector Commander’s Statement: Mr. Franklin Agbakoba confirmed the updated death toll and provided details on the victims’ hospitalization and treatment.
  •  Ongoing Support: The FRSC continues to provide support to the affected families and individuals.

Hospitalization Update:

  •  UNTH Ituku-Ozalla: One patient remains admitted, while three patients were discharged against medical advice.
  •  ESUTH Teaching Hospital: Three female patients are still admitted, with two patients referred to the National Orthopedic Hospital.
  •  National Orthopedic Hospital: One patient died, and two patients are currently admitted.
