The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Alfred Bassey, 40, over the sudden death of his seven-year-old son at a construction site in Onitsha. Bassey, a native of Abi in Cross River State, allegedly forcibly took the child from his mother and left him unattended in an uncompleted building, where his lifeless body was found in a soakaway pit.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Bassey had been living with the child in the uncompleted building after taking him from his mother. The State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for further investigation.
