Multiple fire outbreaks occurred in Lagos on Sunday, destroying properties worth millions of naira. The affected locations include:
- Oshodi Resettlement Market: Two shops were affected, with one suffering 50% damage and the other slightly damaged. The fire started around 10 p.m. and was quickly contained by emergency responders.
- Ogunsami Street, Surulere: A one-storey residential building caught fire, destroying seven rooms, but the ground floor and parts of the building were salvaged. The fire began around 8 p.m. and spread quickly due to strong winds.
- NEPA Road, Alaba Rago: A one-storey building with four two-bedroom flats was engulfed in fire, but emergency responders contained the blaze. The fire started around 8:30 p.m. and was attributed to an electrical fault.
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the causes of the fires are yet to be determined, but he attributed the incidents to negligence by residents. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of safety precautions to prevent future occurrences. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded promptly to the incidents, working closely with other emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force. The agency’s swift response helped to contain the fires and prevent further damage.
