A fire broke out in the Surulere area of Lagos, gutting some shanties. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded to distress calls at 1:18 am and activated its response team from Onipanu. They arrived at the scene by 1:31 am and found a row of makeshift shanty structures beside the canal engulfed in flames.

This incident is not the first time shanties in Lagos have been affected by fire. There have been previous incidents, including a fire that razed scores of shanties in Ebute Meta, Lagos, leaving thousands of people homeless.
