The General Manager of the state fire services, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident and stressed the importance of proper waste disposal and fire safety measures. “We received a phone call around 12:25 am on Sunday, and our personnel were quickly deployed to the scene. We were able to restrict the fire from spreading to other nearby property and educated the people on the ground on the proper ways of preventing fire during the harmattan and how to control it at an incipient stage.”

Akinyinka warned against indiscriminate burning of refuse and bush, adding that “undergrowth should be totally avoided in our community.” This incident highlights the need for increased awareness and vigilance to prevent such disasters in the future.
