A devastating fire outbreak occurred at the popular Iweka Road, close to Ochanja market, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, around 8:30 pm. The fire razed many shops, burning goods and property worth multi-million naira to ashes.
According to the Anambra State Fire Service, the cause of the fire is still unknown. However, firefighters responded to a distress call at 9:40 pm and worked gallantly to contain the incident, saving many shops in a two-story building. The fire affected four shops, which contained furniture materials like leather and foam.
The firefighters withdrew from the scene at 3:05 am on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The incident has left many traders counting their losses, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
