An Allied Air Cargo aircraft suffered a tyre burst, causing it to skid off Runway 22 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday. The incident occurred at 10:05 am on December 11, 2024.
All five passengers and crew members on board were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries. The Airport Emergency response team and accident investigators immediately took over the site.
The incident caused significant disruptions, delaying several departures as authorities work to clear the affected runway. However, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) appreciated the aviation community and the general public for their understanding and patience.
FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, confirmed the incident, stating that the runway is being cleared and is expected to reopen for operations as soon as possible.
