Five Killed, 10 Injured in Delta Road Crash

A tragic road accident occurred on the Benin-Asaba Highway in Delta State, resulting in the loss of five lives and leaving 10 others critically injured. The incident happened on Tuesday night, involving two separate accidents between the Issele-Uku and Onicha-Ugbo axis.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the accidents involved a speeding Sienna minivan that veered off the road and somersaulted multiple times, killing four occupants, including a family of four. The second accident also involved a vehicle, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.

The Delta State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Fredrick Ogidan, attributed the crashes to fatigue and excessive speed, noting that many drivers make multiple trips for financial gain, leading to exhaustion.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, as Delta State has experienced several road accidents in the past. For instance, in 2008, a multiple road accident occurred at Uromi Junction in Agbor, resulting in the loss of 70 lives. Other incidents have also been reported, including a crash that killed three people on the Ogwuashi-Uku-Kwale Road³ and another that claimed the lives of two infants and four others on the Ughelli-Asaba highway.
