A devastating flood swept through Bode Saadu community in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday evening, leaving many residents homeless.
The flood, triggered by heavy rainfall, submerged numerous houses, especially those near the riverbank, forcing occupants to seek shelter elsewhere.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq visited the affected areas on Thursday, commiserating with the victims and directing the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials.
“The ongoing dualization of the Ilorin-Mokwa Road by the Federal Ministry of Works has caused challenges around the bypass, which experts will investigate,” AbdulRazaq said.
He emphasized the importance of observing setbacks, warning residents against building houses on floodplains.
“Half of the buildings wouldn’t have been affected if they had observed the right setbacks. We will intensify efforts to ensure people observe setbacks for safety,” he added.
Residents praised the governor’s visit, citing his commitment to the people’s welfare.
