A devastating flood has ravaged 10 communities in Kebbi State’s Shanga Local Government Area, leaving at least 2,000 people homeless.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that the flooding occurred between September 17 and 22, caused by heavy rainfall and water from River Niger.

Affected communities include:

– Kunda

– Dala-Maidawa

– Dala-Tudu

– Dala-Mairuwa

– Ishe-Mairuwa

– Kwarkusa

The displaced residents, mostly fishermen, have lost significant farmland and crops, including rice, maize, millet, beans, and guinea corn.

A joint assessment team, led by NEMA’s Head of Operations, Aliyu Shehu-Kafindagi, identified an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Tudun Faila Primary School, sheltering over 300 people.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers has expressed concern about the Alau Dam disaster in Borno State, describing it as devastating and capable of causing untold havoc.
