A severe rainfall lasting almost 10 hours caused devastating flooding in parts of Niger State, leaving 7 people missing and 89 houses submerged.
The affected areas include Sabon Pegi in Mashegu Local Government and Nassarawa community in Magama Local Government.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident and reported that local divers are still conducting rescue operations. The agency has warned people living in riverine areas to move to higher grounds, as more rainfall is expected, which could lead to further flooding.
This incident comes after the National Emergency Management Agency listed Niger State as one of the areas prone to flooding this year, with 17 out of 25 local governments at risk.
