Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in Yobe State, Nigeria, destroying 1,650 houses in Jajere and Yunusari towns. The devastating floods have left 413 households displaced, according to Dr. Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Goje revealed that SEMA is working tirelessly to assess the situation and provide relief to the affected communities. Daily review meetings are being held to update stakeholders and develop a response plan that addresses the vulnerabilities of the affected areas and the resources available.
Goje also announced that arrangements are underway to deliver relief materials to the affected communities within the next 24 to 48 hours, as directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni. Additionally, cash disbursement to the victims will soon begin, with “community keepers” currently validating the list of beneficiaries to ensure transparency and accountability.
SEMA is working to provide support to those affected by the floods, which have had a significant impact on the communities in Yobe State.
