Four Feared Dead in Stampede During Catholic Procession in Abia

Tragedy struck in Aba, Abia State, on Sunday, November 24, during the annual Christ the King procession organized by the Catholic Church. Four people, including two elderly women and a teenage girl, lost their lives in a stampede that occurred amid the overwhelming crowd.

According to eyewitnesses, the scene was chaotic, with little to no breathing space due to the large gathering at Christ the King Cathedral (CKC). While some reports attribute the deaths to exhaustion, others claim that the stampede was triggered by some individuals throwing money into the crowd, causing people to scramble and march on each other.

The injured were rushed to different hospitals for treatment, and an official statement from the Catholic Church is yet to be released. This incident highlights the importance of crowd management and safety measures during large events.
