The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has introduced a mobile application and National Crash Reporting Information System (NACRIS) to improve road safety and reduce accidents. The innovative tools enable users to verify driver’s licenses, number plates, and speed detectors, as well as report emergencies, black spots, and eyewitness accounts.
According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the launch of the mobile app and NACRIS is a significant step towards reducing road traffic crashes, which claimed 2,776 lives and injured 16,000 people between January and July 2024.
The FRSC Corp Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, explained that the mobile app is designed to alert the corps to sensitive road safety issues, such as speeding and dangerous driving, and to verify vehicle documents.
The app also provides services like eye witness report, emergency reports, black spot, National traffic radio, speed limiter verification, driving school standardization scheme verification, reminder for drivers licence, and vehicle paper renewal, and emergency contacts.
The Chairman of the House Committee on FRSC, Abiodun Derin Adesida, encouraged the public to utilize the mobile app effectively to foster a culture of safe driving.
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) also reaffirmed its commitment to abiding by FRSC rules and regulations.
