Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, met with Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu in Paris to discuss a partnership that would expand Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills in Nigeria. The meeting focused on the immense potential of AI in Nigeria and how Google can partner with the country to promote AI innovation, research, and skills development.
The partnership aims to enhance scalable cloud infrastructure, equip the workforce with essential skills, promote AI innovation, and drive cloud adoption. President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s emerging AI ecosystem, highlighting Awarri Technologies as a key player in the sector.
Google has already announced two AI initiatives in Nigeria, including a N100 million AI Fund to support startups and a N2.8 billion grant to accelerate AI talent development. The Nigerian government has also launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and a Large Language Model to position the country as an AI leader in Africa.
