A devastating attack occurred in Mafa village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, on Sunday, as gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents looted and set ablaze shops and houses. The attack, which took place around 4 pm, resulted in an unknown number of casualties.
According to DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Yobe State Police Command Spokesman, the gunmen arrived on over 50 motorcycles, armed with rifles and RPGs, and attacked Mafa Ward. They set fire to many shops and houses, killing many people, although the exact number of casualties is yet to be determined.
The attackers also distributed flyers with Arabic inscriptions. This incident follows a recent attack on Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of at least three students.
The Yobe State Police Command is working to ascertain the full extent of the damage and casualties. The community is in shock, and the incident has raised concerns about the ongoing security challenges in the region.
