Gunmen Bomb Police Headquarters, Kill Corporal in Anambra

A group of gunmen launched a deadly attack on the Oba Police Divisional Headquarters in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing a police corporal and injuring several others. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the hoodlums, believed to be a secessionist group, invaded the police facility and threw explosives, causing fires in some offices and the nearby Oba Civic Centre.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers shot sporadically and threw petrol bombs, leading to a fierce fire that was later put out by police officers and a joint security response team. The police corporal who was killed in the attack has not been named.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that a joint security operation is currently underway to apprehend the perpetrators. Ikenga described the attack as an “attack on the soul of a nation” and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, condemned the act and emphasized the need to protect security facilities and personnel from such hostile attacks. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, but it is believed to be carried out by a secessionist group.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of police personnel and facilities in the region, and the need for increased security measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
