Gunmen kidnapped High Chief Ezebinobi Ezeigbo, President of the Abatete community in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Tuesday.
The abduction occurred just hours after Ezeigbo attended the swearing-in ceremony of Dr. Law Mefor as the new Commissioner for Information at the Anambra State Government House in Awka.
According to eyewitnesses, about five gunmen trailed Ezeigbo from Awka to his house, where they ambushed him at gunpoint around 6:30 pm.
The kidnappers forced Ezeigbo into their vehicle, but their plan to take his car as well was foiled when it veered off and crashed into a nearby gutter.

The kidnappers abandoned Ezeigbo’s vehicle and sped away with their victim.
As of now, Ezeigbo’s family has not received any contact or ransom demands from the kidnappers, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
When contacted, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, claimed to have no information about the kidnapping.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about insecurity in Nigeria, with frequent reports of kidnappings and armed robberies in recent months.
