A tragic incident unfolded in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday, as gunmen suspected to be cultists killed Mutiu Akinbami, a former councillor of Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The attack occurred around 6:00 p.m. at the Brewery area, while Akinbami was riding a motorcycle with his son.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants were in a tinted Toyota Hilux and had been trailing Akinbami from his house in Olomoore Federal Housing Estate. The police quickly responded to the scene and rushed Akinbami to Ijaiye General Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
The police have confirmed that Akinbami was a former staffer of the Federal College of Education, Osiele in Abeokuta, and had been listed as a wanted person. Arrests have been made, and further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous attacks by suspected cultists in the area. Just last month, Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress councilorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, was killed by suspected cultists.
