A daring daylight attack by unidentified gunmen has left two people critically injured and a large sum of money stolen in Asaba, Delta State.
The incident occurred along Old Awai Road in the state capital on Tuesday, sending panic-stricken residents and passersby scrambling for safety.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen intercepted a Toyota Camry car bearing a government plate number and unleashed an attack on the two male occupants.
The attackers made off with two Ghana-must-go bags containing an undisclosed sum of money, fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
The victims, who sustained severe injuries, were rushed to an undisclosed hospital by sympathizers.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, declined to comment on the incident.
This latest attack adds to growing concerns about safety and security in the region, coming on the heels of a tragic accident in Kaduna and a boat mishap in Zamfara that claimed 75 lives yesterday.
