The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has taken a deadly turn, with at least 26 people killed and 59 reported missing after Israeli strikes hit Gaza and Lebanon.
The strikes, which occurred on Sunday, targeted various locations including Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, and the southern city of Rafah.
Key Developments:
Gaza Strikes: The civil defense agency reported that Israeli air raids killed at least 46 people, with the deadliest strike occurring in Beit Lahia, where 26 people, including women and children, were killed.
Lebanon Strikes: Israeli forces targeted Hezbollah’s south Beirut stronghold, and overnight air strikes and shelling hit the flashpoint town of Khiam.
Casualties: The overall death toll in Gaza has reached 43,846, with the majority being civilians, according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.
International Response: The United States, Israel’s main military supplier, has dismissed accusations of genocide as “certainly unfounded”.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas began in October 2023, when Hamas launched a land, sea, and air assault on Israel from the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 1,200 deaths. Since then, the situation has continued to escalate, with both sides suffering significant losses.
