JAMB Registers Over 11,000 Underage Candidates for 2025 UTME

Over 11,553 underage candidates have registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), according to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).¹ This revelation came as Oloyede inspected approved computer-based test centers in Lagos on Friday.

As of the 10th day of registration, a total of 782,027 candidates have been registered, with 443 underage candidates registered on Friday alone. JAMB has introduced a system to identify and track underage candidates, which will help understand their issues and identify gifted but underage students.

Oloyede noted that parents are increasingly registering their underage children, sometimes due to pressure or other reasons. Despite some delays, the registration process has made significant progress, with over 80,000 candidates registered daily, exceeding initial expectations.
